I don't understand why anyone would be posting to this site when they could instead be playing Quest for Glory.

Read Oxford Soju Club by Jinwoo Park. Enjoyed it, a great spy novel and commentary on being a part of the diaspora. I knew it would be a complicated read for me as I still have conflicts over whether I count myself as part of that the Korean diaspora, and my own identity. Still highly recommend.

Book 10, Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung and translated by Anton Hur. A sci fi, fantasy, and horror short story collection. A mix of more literary stories and some with subtext as text. Favorites were Scars about a man offered as sacrifice and his escape and Snares a dark folktale inspired story of greed

Thread dump of other books I've finished this year because I meant to do that. First off Volume 1 of A History of Portugal and the Portuguese Empire. A broad overview of the subject, the an-Andalus period is utterly fascinating and I need to read vol. 2 for the colonial history.

Singaporean artist Leia Ham reimagined LotR as Tale of the Middle Kingdom, since Chinese name for China (Zhōngguó) means "The Middle Kingdom." Her concept art includes the Fellowship, armors, buildings like Bag End, props like Aragorn's banner and Fellowship brooches, and more. #TolkienTrewsday

Working more on my quest to read more this year and just finished Yukito Ayatsuji's The Clock House Murders and really dug it. Very much in the vein of the golden age of detective fiction with an atmosphere that I really dig. All are recommended and will be impatiently waiting for the next one.

Love Song So Hee, one of my favorites is Infodemics, which she did with Jambinai's Lee Ilwoo (Jambinai is also great if you want post rock with traditional Korean instruments)

Book 2 done for 2026, Hwang Bo-Reum's "Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop". A slice of life novel about a bookshop owner and those around her. Very enjoyable, but oddly anxiety inducing for me, with the different approaches to life and questions asked about how to live. Felt akin to therapy for me.

First book of 2026 completed (that I started last year). Blood of the Old Kings by Kim Sung-Il. Fantastic start to a fantasy series, looking forward to reading its sequels. Cain's chapters in particular were a highlight, and the book's thoughts on living under an empire was an interesting angle.

A book from the 19th century that depicts the Rhine Valley by creating an impression of three-dimensionality and spatial distance.

Frogger and the Great Quest uses a remixed version of “Promise” from Silent Hill in one of their levels.

You can actually hear the guitar chords in the background.

I should not have to trot out arguments like "actually this investment in public health abroad keeps the world safer and in so doing it makes you safer as well" because, well, I think it panders to the selfish

I'm perfectly OK with people I don't know getting help. My charitable giving is not waste

the original Lodoss was actually just D&D session transcripts, a la modern "actual play." they were published in a games mag & meant to demonstrate D&D to Japanese audiences. this is those in full, with the original illustrations, character sheets, everything!

I’m seeing a lot of people talking about the US healthcare system today, of course, and I guess I feel like I have to let this thought that’s been eating its way at my brain for the last three months. I don’t know if this is a US or an overall medical issue. But it’s about cancer treatment.

There will be a lot of attention to Korea's Yoon as the incel president, but for a man with only 10% approval rating you have to realize he's far, far dumber than just being an incel. This is how long is controversies list is ranging from economics, to gifted handbags.
