As a parent of a Kid Who Reads and a Kid Who Is Starting to Read, I 100% believe that publishing could put even a little more effort into MG and be rewarded for it.
Kids *are* reading. I see it among 9yo's schoolmates, I see it among 5yo's. They love the school library. They love being read to.
I mean… horrifying but also can we not think about the uptick of readers during Covid, how to make stories fun again, not abandon YA and MG which produce new readers, maybe a lil less snake eating its own tail…
The “main issue” facing the book trade is the declining number of readers, the Federation of European Publishers (FEP) warned in its annual Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF) presentation on the data and trends in the EU book market yesterday (7th October). 👇

I remember watching The Princess Bride when I was 9(?) and being so terrified of the ROUSs I had to leave to room.

(I'm sure other movies scared me too, but that's the clearest moment I can remember)
In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

A PhD student at Stanford noticed her classmates were asking Al to write their breakup texts.

So she ran a study. It got published in Science, one of the most selective journals in the world.

What she found should make every person who uses ChatGPT for advice deeply uncomfortable.

Please remember this when Doug Ford and Paul Calandra try to tell you about the historic and unprecedented investments their government has made in education and how greedy teachers are always asking for more.

Heads up, Bookworms: There will likely be💀supply chain issues💀 this holiday season.

So if there are specific books you have your heart set on for holiday gifting, I strongly suggest you buy/order them ahead of time (✨like now✨) rather than waiting until November/December.

Wondering just how much of a stink I should be making about an ENGLISH TEACHER using an LLM to do their work. 😡

This is about tracking adults.

With the coming of fall, a reminder to leave your leaves! Don't rake where you don't have to. Insects need those leaves to keep their eggs warm over winter. There are lots of reasons for insect population decline, but you have direct control over one of them!
