This is my story! Thanks to Bull Lit for championing this. It's actually a small section of the novel that I'm currently shopping to agents. Give it a read.
"At the sink, Devin shoveled week-old pink unicorn cake into his mouth with a toddler’s spoon. Treacly sweet, it nuked his taste buds, leaving a pudding-like mouthfeel. It was terrible. He took another bite." - Kyle Joseph Kennedy mrbullbull.com/newbull/flas...

One of the pieces I’ve been most excited to publish is up. It’s about disconnection and mourning and mint chocolate.
Thumbsucker by Kyle Joseph Kennedy — Bottle Rocket
Bleeding in the produce aisle of Aldi, I debate between containers of mushy pre-cut cantaloupe. At the bottom of one of the containers, a viscous orange liquid lolls around like swallowed phlegm. I pu...

Got a new piece coming up in Bottle Rocket Lit Mag and I have to say, Wilson the EIC, is an absolute gem in how he worked with me to make the piece as strong as it can be. Flash friends, submit to him. Really a tremendous experience and an editor with a lot of love for his authors

“I talked to Mom and Dad at the dinner table that night.

“What do you need that pink doll back for?” Dad dropped his fork as if I’d asked him for a Ferrari.”

This is such a good little story, and the ending is perfect. @bulbregion.bsky.social

Looking through some public domain art and I found this. It is an 1871 piece captioned “absolute silence reigns supreme in all its sad majesty” and it is my spirit animal

This morning I finished “When We Were Feral” by @shastagrant.bsky.social Truly remarkable. As someone who teaches young people, with two little ones at home, it ripped my heart out in a way only a great book can. Maggie and Erin and Sarah will live with me for a long time moving forward. Masterful.

Re-upping this piece from yesterday, which my father described as “clever and righteous, yet sad”. Thats what we call the KJ Kennedy wheelhouse.

Not much more lovely than getting an acceptance from a writer you admire. I’ll have a piece up next week in Dodo Eraser!

I had a piece rejected over twenty times. Had given up on it. Did a little work on it this morning and sent it out expecting more of the same, only to be surprised by an acceptance within hours. Really can’t wait to share this one. In the meantime, read some stories over at @eunoiareview.bsky.social

got two rejections and ate three of my niece’s birthday cupcakes. a man of the people.

I’m listening to a writing lecture and the prof says you don’t need time away from writing to refill the well, but to notice things. My daughter is toasting her own bagel (exciting for 5yo) and calls me over to show me that the plastic tie from the bagels is shaped like a bear head. Praxis.

A dystopian future where lies are currency. @weirdlitmag.bsky.social Summer issue is out and I’m honored to have a strange little flash piece involved. Gonna get a coffee and read the rest of it.

Avoided e-readers for so long. I like the tactile, the feel of the pages, the smell of a used book (mold?). Anyway, got a Kindle and I have to say, as a low-light household (great for aesthetic warmth, bad for reading), I get it now.

Me to my 3 year old building an infinitely tall tower of magnet tiles. “What are you building?”

Him, not looking up. “Princess Zelda’s home when she died on the cross.”

Absolutely love this story by @kdiannerule.bsky.social

QVC, run down motels, Craigslist. That last paragraph. Bravo.
I Like Being Far Away - Turn and Work
A woman meets a stranger from Craigslist for a night in a rundown motel, where they share a bath and swap stories. An intimate and absurd story from a Turn & Work favourite.
