Labour wants to make sure mayors and council chiefs in England can be held to account for extra revenues devolved to them
Ministers are mulling over how to ensure that England’s regional leaders do not misuse their newfound spending muscle, as Whitehall prepares to devolve more revenue to local levels.

I like Burnham as a person. He seems a decent sort, someone you could have a pint with, who'd nod along in agreement as you put the world to rights. But I have yet to see any indication that he is a leader, let alone a courageous one. I really hope he proves me wrong. I doubt it, though.
He could have said this weeks ago. Doing so now only highlights that failure of leadership.

Burnham has correctly identified this double standard and will no doubt, in short order, extend the ban to all sporting events.
