The Death of Robin Hood is not a great film, I don't think, and could reductively be described as "Geralt and Merida star in The Northman", but it is kind of haunting me nonetheless. It has that same hypnotic, dreamy pacing as The Northman, or The Green Knight, and the soundtrack is stunning.

oh man, had gotten all excited about Audacity 4 and how pretty it was, only to discover play-at-speed isn't implemented yet. Like I have the patience to edit at 1x!

One of the inherent contradictions at the heart of my current existence is that I abhor the reductive stereotype of ADHD as just shouting "Squirrel!" mid-sentence

whilst also interrupting whatever I'm doing to shout "Squirrel!" if I spot one

my favorite story i’ve written (“revolutions, as told by a humble rice farmer”) is out in @podcastle.org! 🥹😭

referencing tang dynasty poetry it asks “what if we focused on this RANDOM RICE FARMER instead of the empire??” it’s a deconstruction of nationalism & v queer

Sometimes as an NYT books columnist you find yourself quoted in the Atlantic by Helen Lewis, who believes two odd things: 1. That nobody is reading Pratchett anymore (instead of all the time, as they should), and 2. That Pratchett’s politics are hard to pin down, and Reg Shoe is not a fucking hero.

I just read Godzilla as a Young Man Named Mike by E.M. Faulds for the first time and fuck does it hit home about disability and mental health and wanting to tear the system down. Excellent writing and a well deserved win!
This is such a well deserved award for a writer who combines gorgeous prose, clear sight of our futures and a heartbreaking degree of empathy in her wonderful stories.

You can hear/read it here (and you really should!):

Had a dream about a dream about my late father-in-law last night, wherein his spirit visited to tell me where to find some things in the attic, and it all feels weirdly meaningful given that neither he nor the meta dream have ever figured for me before. Weirdly discombobulated as a result.

“Sex testing has switched from genitals to genes to testosterone levels, and now back to genes. While the stated goal for these policies was to uncover males pretending to be female, they have never found any. Instead, they identified and excluded intersex women.”

Sex testing in sport harms women.
Sex test used in IOC’s new transgender ban more likely to exclude from Olympics intersex women who were assigned female at birth
Genetic testing is now required to participate in women’s events in the Olympics. But the new policy oversimplifies biological sex and risks discrimination against some female athletes.

I get some weird ADHD earworms sometimes, but singing "Euripides, Euripides!" to the tune of O Christmas Tree is a bit odd even for me. No idea how it came about.
