Enough new folks here that it’s time for a pinned intro:

I like to post about David Lynch movies, Alan Moore comics, AEW, Columbo, video games that everybody finished years ago, 90s sketch comedy, and collectible screenprints.

I don’t like to talk about politics, but I seem to do it a whole lot.

Alt: a man and woman are sitting at a table with the words " oh hello " on the top - the preceding was the auto generated description and it rules (this is George St Geegland and Gil Faizon, charmed I’m sure)

without dismissing the possibility that the wild claims in the lawsuit were true, a whole lot of people treated a lawsuit like it was a reported story

people think it's SO easy to be a film critic but so few seem to know that it's an extremely complicated process that often involves watching at least one movie
skipped a pretty key step in the movie review process here

There's a *social* hierarchy that places "person who does computer in office" much much higher than "person who gets food out of the ground." This social hierarchy makes it hard to imagine that AI can replace the first and easy to imagine that it can replace the second. That's probably backwards.

Apparently the movie 2001 did not break even until 7 years after it came out.

I am reminded of the Terry Pratchett quote about opera. Opera does not make money, Opera is what you spend money on. You put in a bunch of money, and you get an opera.

This article is fascinating! What should, on paper, be the truest possible way to be faithful to the original intent fails to account for technical limitations, now absent, that the original was designed to incorporate and accommodate.
The Disney renaissance movies used to look different. They were planned to be printed on 35 mm film -- that's how they were first released.

Modern editions skip that last step in the process. It was a highly developed, overlooked craft, as we explore:

I think what we're seeing is understandable rage and depression; "Dems will be sorry after the Republican wins" is very close to "Everyone will be sorry after I'm dead."

I am begging people to stay alive by whatever means necessary, even if it means voting for the lesser evil. There is still time.

We are not in a situation where "we must send a message to the Democrats through our votes" can no longer be our first priority, because we are at the brink of losing our ability to meaningfully vote at all.

one of my favorite things to do in used bookstores is to check out the occult/conspiracy section and look for self-published/vanity press books. struck gold yesterday with "The Infinite Concept of Cosmic Creation" by Ernest L. Norman.

Comic of the day is Wally Wood's CANNON #4. These were oversized (basically Marvel Treasury dimensions) self-published collections of a "men's adventure" strip Wood did for a newspaper called "Overseas Weekly," distributed on military bases.
