This automatically made us think of you.
If you do any in-stores in Seattle for the next Keeper of the Lost Cities book, my daughter has a full set of paperbacks she is loving to death. She will sheepishly be asking you to sign every one.
Oh, and you never need to apologize when you bring us a book that's been absolutely destroyed by reading. For writers, that's like you showing us your Velveteen Rabbit. If you love a book so much that it's falling apart? That is an enormous compliment, and any writer should be happy to sign it.

I love west coast Amtrak! Having now ridden every North-South stretch between Bellingham, WA and San Diego, CA @amtrakcascades.wsdot.wa.gov, even before the new trains going live, gets my vote for friendliest employees AND best food though.
Srsly, the Amtrak employees I’ve interacted with are the best & we should fund the shit out of US passenger rail

@michaelharriot.bsky.social has a knack for summing up the whole discussion with one sentence.

Pick up his book, Black AF History, to learn SO much more.
Notice how those “apolitical” people ALWAYS end up siding with the oppressors

Today I learned that “normal” Philly cheesesteak recipes don’t include peri peri sauce. I feel so sad for so many of you out there.

After school activities are back!
Riding the ebike up to pick my daughter up from school, then around for dance, jump rope, etc. is my favorite part of every week.

It’s amazing how many more smiles you get from strangers in Seattle when you’re willing to smile at them too.

Every walking and cycling trail in this city is a particularly good place to experience this. I recommend everyone get out there and enjoy them.
The “Seattle Freeze” didn’t start with you, but it could end with you! :)

First trip on the C Rapid Ride with my ebike today. I haven’t ridden the full new waterfront trail up to Interbay yet or visited Cafe Hagen - Waterfront since it opened so here we go. Happy Saturday, all!

Woke up late this morning and missed the first half but the highlights at the break looked wild. I’ll go back and watch the whole thing later but for now…

@amtrakcascades.wsdot.wa.gov Our family is planning as much regional vacation time as possible via these new trains through Q1 next year already. We cannot wait!
When do we get new swag, stuffies, and pins?!
Amtrak will start running the new Airo trainsets on Amtrak Cascades on September 30, according to a WSDOT presentation happening right now at the Puget Sound Regional Council.

I love how @seattletimes-rss.bsky.social will take an idea from 3 CMs to spend $400,000 on an out of state public safety consultant as an ironclad plan that the entire council supports and the mayor needs to respond to and then just uncritically print false info that Erica has to fact check.
"I'll say that fatal shootings in 2012 were 211, and in 2024 there were 541. And post-pandemic, it increased exponentially," Rivera said. None of these things are true. There were 26 fatal shootings in 2012 and 55 in 2024.

Want to know what one of the most effective types of programs is for preventing youth from getting involved in crime?

I’ll give you a hint. @mayor.seattle.gov Katie Wilson and her City Council supporters got it done in time for the 2026-27 school year.

You know what remains amazing? Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Little Women.
Plus, I’ve seen them all so many times I can close my eyes as the pain comes and goes without really missing anything.
#ChronicPain and #ChronicIllness friends,
What are your comfort watch movies when you’re feeling wrecked?
I’m laid up and made the mistake of trying to rewatch Sixteen Candles, so now I need something significantly less offensive to correct for that.

Tiffany Aching, and I Shall Wear Midnight in particular, is Pratchett at his absolute best.

While I’m looking out my window at the garden:
Pavers, plant stakes, ceramic pots, dry-stacked masonry, retaining walls, pickaxes, shovels, garden forks, rakes, spades, draw saws, hori hori/knives, axes/hatchets, hammers/mallets, chisels, whetstones, rasps/files, bolts/screws, wrenches, pliers, etc.
Name old technology that still works perfectly fine.

I was pulled out of presenting to an organization-wide best practices group about a major process improvement project I had just completed and walked down the hall to a conference room where HR was waiting to tell me my position had been eliminated.
How did you get laid off?

I counted so many kids yesterday that seemed like they were on some of their first rides. What a world-class venue for safe cycling practice! I hope some of these kids grow up to be voting cyclists in 15ish years.
Just spent a bit of time on LWB to do some informal demographics. By my count ~60% of the park users in the 4-5pm hour were under the age of 18.

#WestSeattle friends,

Does anybody know where Husky Deli gets their focaccia? They’re closed for their son’s wedding this weekend and I’m craving chicken pesto, artichokes, and provolone with some really good bread.
