A lovely urban colony of Triphysaria pusilla I stumbled upon on my way to get a snack at 7 eleven after class today.A native found in prairies and outcrops that seems to feel just at home in anthropogenic hellscapes, but in my opinion is still not common enough. Too bad it's annual! West Seattle

We're thrilled to send our bill, AB 581, to the Governor's desk! Brought to us by local environmental nonprofit @lpforestwatch, AB 581 would establish the resilient and fire-germinated Big-Berry Manzanita (Arctostaphylos glauca) as the state shrub.

Big Berry Manzanita (Arctostaphylos glauca) can live for over 100 years but doesn’t begin to fruit until around age 20. Its seeds need fire to germinate, and it produces large, edible berries.

Manzanita (Arctostaphylos columbiana) grows in open areas of forest at low to mid elevations of the Gorge. It likes dry conditions. Native Americans ate the berries for food & took a decoction of the bark for diarrhea. The wood was used on fires at dances because it burns ...

If you see this, post a photo taken in the mountains.

This is a pic I took of the endangered Mount Diablo manzanita, Arctostaphylos auriculata, one of the Californian endemic species found only on and immediately around Mount Diablo (a place called Tuyshtak in Northern Ohlone).

Manzanitas (Ericaceae: Arctostaphylos spp.) are commonly found in arid shrublands and woodlands of western North America. Made up of dozens of species, these woody plants grow as bushes or small trees. Once pollinated the pink flowers become red fruit. Great Basin National Park, Nevada, 19 May 2016.

Unlike many of Flock’s cameras, Flock’s Condor cameras track people, not vehicles.

The exposure highlights the fact that Flock is not just surveilling cars—it is surveilling people, and in some cases it is doing so in an insecure way.
