Its likely a trauma response due to the recession and our economic futures. When people can't afford the big things they once dreamed about and planned for, they overconsume and hoard little things to compensate. I'm worried as well.

Before Black folk were pushed into projects/apts in NYC, Black freed farmers owned the land that is now the LES, Bushwick, Central Park, and parts of Bedstuy & Crown Heights. Across the US, we used to have land to live on. Then came the mass theft via guns, courts, and lynchings. Remember this.

I dislike the idea that NYC is the place where you can morph into someone new, b/c it relies on the consant subjugation of Black american New Yorkers to make it happen. This! As a former tutor, many working class parents of public school children often ask for programs and alt school recs, mentorship, advocate for more resources etc. Its the system. Parents who care deeply come in all classes. Parents who fail their children also come in all classes.
What strikes me is that she failed her kid in a much more mundane way than she thinks.
She didn’t check her schoolwork for *years.* She didn’t look for resources to independently determine if her kid was up to grade level. She didn’t give her outside work or send her to Kumon etc etc

Also, shoutout to the members who questioned her. Blackness is not endlessly expansive and we're unfortunately in a wave of time where nonblack people overwhelmingly claim Black heritage in the US for access and capital.

Most light skinned people with a white parent are colorist to some degree and that's why the revelations about kwn dont shock me. Unfortunately, its always a waiting game until the antiblackness pops out.

Many, many years ago I worked for Flight Club corporate and Complex. The hype market was soley dependent on a slight chance of finding the pair you wanted for retail. Reselling ruined the lottery aspect that fueled buyers, pre-apps to the point that brick and mortar also started to decline.
