ICE posted another detainee death report on its FOIA Library today. This one is for Charles Leo Daniel, a 61-year-old man from Trinidad who died in ICE custody in 2024 after four years in ICE detention at the Northwestern Immigrant Processing Center in Tacoma, WA.

it didn't even occur to me that the government might try to execute someone a second time if they torture the person but fail to kill them during a first botched attempt. truly grotesque and a moral stain upon all involved.

A rare move by the Supreme Court prevented Alabama from executing prisoner Jeffery Lee with nitrogen gas in June. The state now intends to put him to death by lethal injection, setting up a legal challenge because Lee didn’t choose such a method and the state initially agreed not to use it.
