I’d be willing to bet money that Dublin City Council will grant Lyft a monopoly license for the replacement Dublin Bikes scheme. I think this is a very bad idea for many reasons. I am calling on the council to learn some lessons from New York. #dublin #activetravel
A new deep dive from me: Mayor Mamdani will face an uphill battle to make Citi Bike any cheaper, as its operator Lyft has consolidated a lot of leverage and could end up dictating the terms in its upcoming contract renewal. nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/10/08/t...

this is infuriating @aircanada.bsky.social
These were identical trips, loaded via identical referrer URLs. The difference was that in the browser where Air Canada knew that I was an extremely loyal and prolific customer, they had whacked me with a *44.8% premium* to punish me for my loyalty!

This budget shows that this Government has abandoned those struggling most from the cost-of-living crisis.

It's a budget completely devoid of ambition and new ideas.

Regrettably, Government has ignored our proposals and this budget that fails to provide short-term relief where it is most needed.

We’ve had to listen to some very unimpressive TDs talk shit about public sector workers needing to prove their worth and up their game. Meanwhile the sight of an almost-empty greyhound track and the yelping of mistreated animals gets them humming the national anthem as a tear rolls down their cheek

I actually love billions going to subsidise fossil fuel companies instead of long term solutions. It's class that we can afford to prolong the issue of fossil fuel dependency indefinitely. I love it

The projected cost of Dublin District Heating Project has risen to more than €130 million. It would use extra heat from the Poolbeg rubbish incinerator to warm water and send it through pipes underground to keep homes and offices cosy without burning additional fossil fuels.

Every year Ireland gets stern warnings about how reliant it is on corpo tax revenue and every year it cuts its other tax nets to make that reliance worse.
Harris says there will be a personal income tax package of €1.3 billion in this year's budget.

The standard rate cut-off will rise by €2,500 to €46,500 per person.

The entry threshold for USC 3% band to rise by €1,600 from €28,700 to €30,300.

€22 million euro for the Ryder Cup is madness!

I practise in a courthouse which has a rat problem & no consultation rooms.

22million would go a long way to building proper facilities.

I’d rather see investment in combatting environmental change, more help for organisations who run domestic violence centres, rape crisis centres, or for people dealing with unstable living conductions. People like me are doing ok, we don’t need extras at this moment. Still never going to vote FF/FG

Having read @toiletbones.bsky.social’s excellent bio and promptly following, I happily remembered when Meredith Yayanos claimed the TOP Klout spot for “Diarrhea” and I got it for “Cannibalism” on the same day. And kept it until the end of the site

Oh Klout, you were so dumb but so delightful.

🛌 Over 17,000 people are homeless.

📚 Over 400,000 children are being taught in overcrowded classrooms.

👩🏻‍⚕️ Over 1,000,000 people are on hospital waiting lists.

Nothing in today’s budget will deliver the transformative change we need to resolve these issues.

Last minute changes to the tax package for #Budget2027: the cutoff point for the higher tax rate now rises by €2,500 (more than expected), so those earning over €46,500 get €500 more per year. PAYE and Personal tax credits rise by €125 each. Full time worker on average wage takes home €750 more (1)

Exactly this. And in fact, many models *have* been created this way, and decades of prior machine learning systems *were* created this way, consensually. These things are choices! People are STILL working this way! It’s not just that a better world is possible — it already EXISTS. We can nurture it.
This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead
