BRING BACK THE WORLD FAIR
Spoken from a beloved historian and 40th Ward resident! Let's get rid of the air and water show and replace it with something else that will bring equal amounts of hospitality industry money and and less environmental and sound pollution!
What with the specter of the military terrorizing Chicago being an actual possibility, hearing fighter jets boom overhead is no longer merely a nuisance. It's trauma. Time to end the Air & Water Show, or limit it to the actually charming and entertaining stunt pilots, wing-walkers, and such.
Apparently the Bay Areas transit is experiencing the threat of massive service cuts due to lack of budget that Chicago Area has last year before the state level reforms...what's going on?? Is it just big metropolitan mismanagement or years of austerity everywhere coming back to haunt?? Or??

ICYMI—

A Chicago ICE agent has been identified as the man who pointed his gun in a Virginia driver's face last week in videos that went viral.

We found members of his team involved in a slew of violent incidents recorded across several states in the last year. They're still active in Chicago:

These are big questions, in my mind.

Will CTA continue to defer to CDOT and alders on service planning?

Will CDOT permit NITA more authority over its public way?
👀 Will NITA flex its statutory authority--long held but all but unused by the RTA--to designate lanes for bus transit improvements such as bus rapid transit?
Completing a Better Streets for Buses project on Western Avenue, according to CMAP's 2026 project benefits appendix, would increase ridership by a number greater than the Orange, Pink, or Green-Lake branches of the L.

If we do Western and Pulaski, it would exceed the Brown line's ridership.

This has been the argument against body cams from the jump. If they can't be used to hold law enforcement or militias accountable, their only functions are to surveil the public and to justify violence against civilians.
This was entirely predictable:

“ICE will promptly release video of shootings and other encounters in which its agents cause death or serious injury only after determining “it is in the best interests of the agency” to do so.”
ICE will release body camera video only when seen in the agency’s ‘best interests,’ policy says
Immigration and Customs Enforcement is moving to equip officers with body cameras in the next two months but the agency’s policy gives it broad control over what footage will be made public.
