In my dreamworld Joy Hollingsworth loses her transparent bid for mayor to Katie Wilson, Alexis Mercedes Rinck becomes council president, & we have a full term or two of transformative progressive leadership in Seattle, followed by an AMR mayoralship cementing the progressive utopia Seattle could be
What a great day! Council just unanimously passed our ordinance updating the worker protections for domestic workers! Mil gracias to my colleagues for supporting this important legislation!
Council Member Alexis Mercedes Rinck, Casa Latina, Domestic Workers Standards Board members, and a hiring entity celebrate new worker protections for Seattle domestic workers.

A Seattle muralist who feels the need to always add their venmo to their work is also posting gen ai slop.

Started my session today by telling my therapist they should stop getting PsychologyToday mags. I was reading one while waiting and they used ai gen images to tell people the benefits of getting out into nature. We have plenty of images of nature you could use and ai is actively destroying nature.

I saw a raccoon roadkill near the aurora bridge and it dawned on me that if Jimothy was hit by a car it would be easier to get traffic safety measures in Seattle. The world would see his death and give carte blanche to Wilson to prevent this horrible tragedy from recurring.

I appreciate that a plot point in House of the Dragon this season was the use of excessive force as a response to graffiti. It clearly shows how a ruler's response to graffiti shows their own fragility and abuse of power.

Disappointing to see one of the local amateur soccer teams hiring a designer from Ohio, why don't we keep it within the local community, we have designers here. An amateur team shouldn't be hiring people who need a plane ticket to watch a game.

The city of Seattle spends >$3 million on graffiti abatement per year.

Had to tell a guy at pickup to stay in control and on his feet after he slide into a 60+ year old. His response was "I've played my whole life, i know the rules", then 20 mins later asked someone about the rules for goalkeeping. I couldn't help to make a comment and he called me "snarky".

Opportunity cost exists for all things except the police.
To be clear, City Council was hemming and hawing about twice this number last week to pay for school lunches.
Seattle police chief Shon Barnes is getting $700,000 in a settlement for leaving the department, PubliCola has confirmed.

I think the issue with the Wilson and SPD relationship is that she kept Barnes on to begin with. Barnes was a shitty Harrell appointment and his issues of living out of state were there from the start. It would have been controversial but it also would have showed she meant business from the start.

“My opponent vigorously defended a police chief who was absent for the biggest emergency in the city’s recent history. What does that say about their own commitment to being present in the community?”
Seven of the current city council seats are up for election next year. The council that is currently raging out about the mayor's decision to fire the police chief could have a very different composition in relatively short order.

this motherfucker got $50k to come here, didn't really even do that, sucked at his job, got paid $300k to suck at it, and now gets $700k to fuck off

while our stupidest council members are still screeching about "DeFuNd ThE pOLicE" the actual police are basically robbing the city of seattle

Dear Seattle: It'd be a real shame if this happened to, say, streets around Fremont and Ballard

I was very pleased that CM Rinck brought the heart of the matter to the fore. Because yes, why do we value graffiti abatement over feeding hungry kids? That is such a wild stance to take, and yet, here we are.
btw AMR is the ONLY councilmember who has pointed out that we could easily take this $3m out of SPD funds and they wouldn't even notice. That is literally the whole debate and every single one of them has elided that fact but one

Here is AMR dissenting over the false dichotomy of providing school meals for kids. These are the sources that the more tenured city councilmembers funded this year

- Graffiti abatement: $4.1M
- Unified Care Team (homeless sweeps): $30M
- Real time crime center funding for Axon CCTV cameras): $4.9M

Why are we debating which hungry kids to feed? Because we aren't willing to prioritize this issue above others when it comes to the budget.

I admittedly don't know the intricacies of Foster's politics, so I'm baffled why she did this and broke away from the other progressives. What's Foster's deal?
Both Joy Hollingsworth and Dionne Foster, the sponsors, objected to the "narrative" that their program is "means-tested,' but that is literally the definition of cutting off access based on income and requiring parents to prove their income in order to qualify. "Universal" is the opposite.

My one comment is that Ballard should get the Jimothy mosaic, he lives in our neighborhood and we don't already have a fun patron saint mosaic yet.
A mosaic of him needs to go up at Cal Anderson stat so he may be formally canonized as St. Jimothy, patron of all thriving with disabilities. Hot short-spined summer is here, folks.
meanwhile...

I was watching the @goballardfc.bsky.social game stream, we get a goal at 121' and it's about 9:50 so I stop watching to get groceries (beer) before they close at 10. I get back to find out Utah evened it up and then we won on pens! What happened?!

So yesterday I said Strauss is at times a lil bitch, specifically for abstaining to vote when he wants to avoid taking a stance, but this is amazing.

You have earned a lot of my respect today Strauss, keep on telling Saka to shut up.
Dan Strauss interrupts! He calls the question! He has a second!

This shall henceforth be known as the "shut up, Rob" maneuver.
