This was a really good time. I've been wanting to sit with the @trashfuture.bsky.social team for a while. I think there are at least three - and maybe four - terrible Trump impressions in this.

A recent article claimed @doctorow.pluralistic.net theory of tech's continual worsening is actually fake, and that people actually love their phones and apps more than ever. Cory wasn't going to read it, but we got him on and let him respond. Let's just say there are some holes in the logic.

Is anybody going to retroactively suggest that this was all too confrontational, that these people should moderate their language, or that none of this was ultimately effective in creating the political space for gay people to be seen as human?
Happy birthday to David Wojnarowicz, groundbreaking artist, writer & activist, who raged raged raged against inequity and injustice at every turn. If he hadn’t died of AIDS, like so many leading lights of his generation, he would have been 72 years old today (thread)

Cory came and hung out with us again, this time specifically about two things:

1. Rebutting Andreesen Horowitz's Culture columnist's stupid article about why "you love enshittified platforms actually"

2. Reframing recent mystical discussions about AI that it's all EXPLAINABLE

shared bond among all* Americans

*your shared bond may vary
But that feeling of a shared bond among all Americans in the early weeks after the attack is something I’m so glad I got to experience. Because it’s the thing that I think we’re missing the most today.

Why did a family of restaurateurs from the Reading area suddenly become critical to every phone sold in the UK? You might assume it's low-stakes corruption, but we have a different theory…

We have an episode coming out with @doctorow.pluralistic.net tomorrow that’s all about one thing: THIS IS NOT MYSTICAL! IT IS REAL TECHNOLOGY THAT IS EXPLAINABLE
Historians, help me out: Do we have precedent for what to do when the media interviews members of cults and just platforms them, with zero acknowledgment that they are living inside their own delusions?

“Don’t worry, we’re still lying to those ignorant swine - we assume we will be able to do this forever and people will continue taking it” is an approach that has led us to turn over governments every 1.9 years on average since 2015.

So… start the clock
Yeah, can we decide whether this is 1) a reset of our relationship with Israel 2) a big nothingburger, or 3) a racist attack upon an embattled domestic ethnic group? Because it seems to me that these three things quite obviously will not all fit through the door at the same time.

In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

Are we going to get the 200 articles on James Orr then? Maybe read and interrogate the footnotes of his doctoral thesis? Is Cambridge going to have to issue out statements about its hiring standards?
Just a reminder, Professor James Orr, Reform UK head of policy, teaches 'ethics' to undergraduates at Cambridge University

By the time public opinion flips in favour of immigration - and it will - the who have been in charge of driving it down won’t be able to turn it around again.
Will making it harder/impossible for care workers/middle skill migrants on work visas to settle improve integration cohesion? No.

But will it save money/be good for the economy? Absolutely not, quite the opposite.

But at least it's popular?
