Forget grandiose talk of curing cancer - this is what AI is actually doing to healthcare.

In the words of one cardiologist: “it’s bots fighting bots, agents fighting agents, a horrible dystopic future nobody wants to live in.”

Can’t eat a sandwich until you subscribe to sandwiches. Can’t eat today’s sandwich until it has applied daily sandwich updates. Sandwich now has adverts even though you paid for ad-free sandwich. Can pay again to have less sandwich adverts. Now you can eat the sandwich, but it’s smaller.

This would align with what I pointed out in last months column: the money is a means to control over higher ed. It's not a genuine interest in funding "better science."

my latest: Massachusetts is one of the safest states for trans people—but multiple hospitals preemptively ended youth trans care over Trump admin threats to cut fed funding.

on Wed, trans activists took their HRT at a govt office and refused to leave without a commitment to fight those hospitals.
Even in safe-haven Massachusetts, trans care is at risk. Young people are fighting to protect it
Activists are calling on the state attorney general to take action against hospitals that have ended gender-affirming care programs after Trump retook office

WHAT. THE ACTUAL. F**K.
The NIH Director confirms they are giving away biomedical research money used to develop treatments and cures for infectious diseases such as influenza, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV, Ebola, and other dangerous pathogens, to the Department of Defense. Outrageous.

This is bad. This is very very bad.

In other words, what we’ve been saying. But glad to see science like this getting published!
Well this is startling.

Researchers looked at how AI may raise productivity in the energy sector. Across the board, productivity increases for fossil fuels cause a net increase in GHGs.

The only way AI causes net GHGs to fall is if renewables productivity goes up 4-5x more than fossil fuels.
