REEL formed when three refugees from The Psychedelic Duelling Wars congealed in the psychic wreckage of a Somerset studio to record Wild Garlick electronica on adapted bits of farm machinery, petrol cans & sine wave generators

Raging against the dying of the LPs by finding time to play Swans albums right the way through (on CD). Today it has been Birthing, played loud & soundtracking chores, sitting, dancing, more chores, cooking, cleaning and finally just listening with my eyes closed.

I am not joking when I say this. Soylent Green is now very, very good and these soulless dorks need to (literally) get into it.

Well, wouldn’t say it was life changing because me & most of my mates loved Orbital & had seen them before but it certainly changed Glastonbury Festival for everyone…

Yesterday was a photographing shipping containers through a rainy windscreen kind of day.

Random moments in TV Shows that have made me inexplicably tear up like a sentimental old drunk.

A few days ago a mate couldn’t remember a song and said simply “I think Andrew Weatherall did a remix of it” - Mm, not as helpful as you might think…
‘Ere, you got any of that Weatherall stuff?’

Well, it turned out that Home Taping WASN’T the thing killing music…

Saw someone write that The Fall was their favourite band but they weren’t entirely sure they liked their music - I don’t (quite) agree but it’s definitely adjacent to the reason I miss them being around.

Spent a great deal of the day listening to Swans while doing household tasks, writing and cooking. They sure make even the most menial & quotidian tasks shimmer with intensity.

Rewatching Our Friends In The North on iPlayer & enjoying almost as much as when it first cake out, even if I’d forgotten / repressed the influence on my young self of the unbelievably hot Gina McKee, especially when she gets into politics…

Bought this book years ago & then got drunk and left it in the pub after only reading Chapter 1 but now have it on audiobook & it’s a great deal of mordant fun, almost ridiculously relatable, and read beautifully by @jahduran.bsky.social himself. www.strangeattractor.co.uk/catalogue/jo...

Performative reading update: more people talk to you if reading books with colourful covers than books with dark ones. Small sample but seems significant. Tried some performative reading in Hay on Wye but competition there was hard. Stag Dance probably not best option.
I read books a lot in public. Subways, bus stops, parks, waiting in queues, sitting in pubs waiting for friends who are always late etc, but I’m hearing a lot about ‘performative reading’ & I’d like to get into that. Any tips for a beginner that could elevate my reading in this way? #BookSky 💙📚

Okay, I’m sure “times were different” or whatever, but whenever *I* don’t come home on time because I’m hanging out & taking drugs & having sex with a beautiful nymph on a remote island *my* wife gets well annoyed…

Bought a lot of books this Summer on my travels. Not sure which one I should read next. Narrowed it down to these. Might leave the massive Meades one for the winter since it hardly fits in my bag…

I only really liked Debt’s early stuff, when it was in chickens & conch shells & shit like that.

I’d have given him a lift but we disagreed about The Stone Roses, Doves, The Courteeners & The La’s and he wasn’t budging. I guess sticking to your guns can be a good thing but I thought it was a bit much, tbh. I said I had Fool’s Gold ffs.
Andy Burnham is going to be flying between London and Manchester ffs

Doesn’t happen very often but it’s one of those evenings when all I can be bothered to watch is The Chart Show’s Indie Singles run down. Interesting that they used the Icelandic version of Birthday. m.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rru...
