New episode!! 🎉🎙️

A conversation w/ @samgilbert.bsky.social all about cognitive offloading.

We humans have long used tools to help us remember and reason. But as new technologies emerge, it's a good time to take stock: What does offloading do for us—and to us?

THE CHAFF PROJECT

Hi! Are you cis in the UK and you'd like to support trans rights? Great!

How: buy a trans flag pin and wear it in public.

Why: chaff is an overwhelming amount of false positives so that when a missile gets close to the plane, it hits the chaff and not the plane.

Prisciliano Trejo Ricano came to the U.S. at 3yrs old.

ICE took him this June. He was 29.

He told his family he didn't feel right but ICE wouldn't give him medical attention.

After a month, ICE finally moved him to a hospital

Prisciliano died five days later

This is way more than the Department of Energy spends on all of the renewable energy, energy efficiency, clean vehicles, and battery research and development, combined.
RFK Jr. asked the National Institute of Health to dedicate $5 billion (!) to finding a link between vaccines and autism. "That would have dedicated more than a tenth of the NIH’s annual budget to investigating a hypothesis already refuted by scientists worldwide."

The <2500 mountain tapirs left in the wild face a new threat, the screwworm (a huge problem in the US livestock sector that was eradicated thanks to international coordination)
Our paper on New World Screwworm outbreaks in wildlife is out! This flesh-eating parasite isn’t just attacking livestock & humans—it’s now threatening the endangered mountain tapir, a keystone Andean species.
