The problem is that "while you weren't looking the tech industry was comprehensively taken over by a cult based around a piece of Harry Potter fanfic" is self-evidently an absolutely ridiculous claim that can't possibly have happened, which is a real problem given that it 100% did happen.

this is an important thread, especially for my fellow white Christians. I count myself lucky to have avoided the slip into Islamophobia and attendant racism as a young man. I was fortunate to live in a community with many Muslim neighbors which kept me from succumbing to mainstream demonization.

we don’t teach young people short-term history, so it was weird when i realized that gen z had no idea that so many gen x and millennials spent our high school years protesting george w bush
and not just because of the wars, but because mosques were being targeted and sikh men were being attacked

The political and cultural response to 9/11 was to briefly mouth some "Islam is not to blame" platitudes and then declare total war on Muslim people and the Muslim world and we're entering the 25th year of it with no end in sight.
If nothing else, this book deserves your attention because it refutes what is becoming an alarming consensus talking point in the center that 9/11 brought out the better angels of our nature - a delusional distortion of reality that is true only for one value of "our."
