I don't get around to reading too many books that aren't in translation these days, but I read Xiran Jay Zhao's Iron Widow this weekend during commutes... So freaking good, y'all

Had a great time at AnimeNYC this year! I'm also proud of myself for actually like, managing to talk to some people too 😅 I wish my commute in and out was a little easier, but it was way better than previous years. Maybe I should consider other big cons in the future, hm...

Update: I am regretting this (and also having to double-check terms like "décolleté")
Edited most of a part today, but I ran out of brain when I hit the "steamy" scene. Certainly I will not regret this tomorrow when I go back to it...
(I absolutely will, because editing those takes two or three times as long as normal passages. Sorry, future me.)

"digital asbestos" is fantastic framing.
I'm going to be honest here, I think AI is going to do so much damage to the usable internet that even after it's inevitably crashes out, it's going to take years to disentangle from every space it's polluted, like digital asbestos it's gonna be time consuming effort and likely expensive venture.
I think AI is going to eventually tank in the longterm, but...
the only real way to combat this is single-interest communities. Forums, user comms, etc, with a barrier to entry. They become trustable knowledgebases. It's really the only way forward is to return to what worked best the first time

my hottest educational take is that schools should actively, non-punitively teach students how to admit when they don't know something, aren't sure or have made a mistake, with various teaching frameworks adapted to support this ideal, because people who can't admit fault are breaking the world

If you are too tied to gmail, then go shut off the smart features to disable all this. I did it a week or two ago and I really don't feel like I'm missing anything at all.
Yet another reason to get off Gmail and try to lessen your reliance on Google altogether. There are plenty of good alternatives. I use ProtonMail, for example.

Saw Kamijo perform in NYC tonight - awesome, awesome show! Wild to realize that I last saw him here almost exactly 10 years ago at the very same venue - found my ticket from then: June 6, 2015.

Don't take this job! They will pay you peanuts to "edit" a TL that's so flavorless/confusing you'll have to TL the whole thing all over again from scratch bc machine TL can't deal with nuance, metaphor, idiom, personality, or any of the other many human elements that come together to make a story!
