This feels like a growing phenomenon that ought to have a name. I quite like “weapons-grade cozy” to describe tv shows (like GBBO or Queer Eye) that turn sincerity and sweetness into mass-marketed products

I have encountered so many grievers once I became one. Our stories are unique but we can relate to the same experiences and feelings. I wanted to share my imagery so another griever might see their grief in the analogies.

What’s really peculiar about the “rapture” theology is that it’s based on a really convoluted and selective reading of scripture, dates back no further than the 19th C, is rejected by the Orthodox, Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans, Reformed, and is basically contradicted by the Apostle’s Creed. But…
I keep telling people about how the Christian "Left Behind" books, literal fantasies about the apocalypse, were super, super popular in the late 90s/ early 2000s. I used to read them.
Major disasters, while terrible, were also framed by evangelical churches as titillating...sexy almost.

Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

i don't believe talarico is a bigot. im pretty sure he isnt. but if he apparently "has to" answer bad faith questions in a way that appears to compromise on the rights of one group of people being repressed to get elected, it's fair to ask what else he will "have to" do once he's in office
