One major reason why there is still no support or care for chronic illnesses like ME/CFS and Long Covid

@crunchme.bsky.social

An idle thought - Has there been any analysis / CrunchME iconography to show if Newly Diagnosed (ME + Long Covid ME) cases are estimated to be rising *faster* than any estimated rates for ‘spontaneous recovery within lifetime’?

e.g. are numbers increasing?

This is the disease for which I research and advocate: #MECFS. Even mild presentation is life-changing, and this is what severe looks like.

People are surprised so many of us were athletes. They want to believe this can only happen to people who were already unwell.

Beth Dobbin: British Olympic sprinter in bed for 22 hours a day after ME diagnosis
Beth Dobbin ran for Great Britain at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Five years on, she is largely bedbound after being diagnosed with ME, a devastating illness for which there is no cure.

But it was never valid as an excuse.
Wish Forward ME would kick up more of a fuss. 👀

ME/CFS is characterized by post-exertional malaise. PEM is variously defined, but it involves an abnormal multi-system & multi-symptom response to often-trivial levels of exertion.

(1/3) Total funding allocated to research on #MECFS over decades is roughly what a disease of similiar prevalence and impact would receive every year, and much of it was wasted. People can debate the reasons for this gross negligence, but they cannot argue that research avenues have been exhausted.

1. We need action to translate the availability of these documents into meaningful change.
2. So disappointed at continuing lack of clarity over the exploration of a national specialist service for v severe ME.
3. Hard to see that mere ‘capacity building’ will significantly progress research.

WITHOUT a Wealth Tax someone with £11M could buy a decent family hatchback... But they probably already have a Ferrari (or 2).

WITH a Wealth Tax, we could have free childcare for all AND build 90K new social homes. Oh, & someone with £10,980,000 could STILL buy a new hatchback.

I have sadly been following the crankery machine that is psychosomatic ideology for years.

They never actually think about the possible consequences of being wrong.

Never actually do, it never gets any further than what it could possibly mean for them, it's always completely superficial.
1 🇳🇴) In this Norwegian study, therapists using a psychosomatic approach to ME/CFS expressed "concern about how current approaches might be viewed if future research were to establish a treatable biological dysfunction."
