The grasshopper warbler is named for its song which resembles an incredibly loud grasshopper. As we get older the first part of the hearing to deteriorate is the exact pitch the grasshopper warbler sings at! Sad to think most of us will stop hearing them at some stage in our lives.

A common misconception is that Riverfly monitoring is only for those living in rural areas, with access to gorgeous streams teeming with fly life...

The Urban Riverfly scheme was developed to allow more meaningful monitoring to be done on rivers where sensitive riverflies are less commonly found.

A major milestone! Thanks to the team at @AVDawson, we've installed the first native oyster hoist nursery in the main River Tees. These mighty molluscs improve water quality and create refuge habitat. We'll monitor them monthly as we work towards creating an oyster reef in the estuary.
