one of the most infuriating things about the rollout of GenAI media (not going to call it art) is that we were introduced to slop from stolen datasets first, poisoning the well

so, potentially cool applications of the tech needs to be met with force so as to not encourage bad actors
With Dataland, his new cutting-edge LA gallery, Refik Anadol wants to show that AI art can be something radically different from prompt-engineered slop. Can he win over the skeptics? (Probably not on Bluesky, but please don’t pelt me with tomatoes, I didn’t even pay for my ticket)
A New Experiential Gallery Just Might Change Your Mind About AI Art
Billed as the “world’s first museum of AI arts,” Dataland uses wearables and troves of material from the Amazon to merge nature, biometrics, and art.

i genuinely hate how internet culture has become so normalized and widespread. i do not want a white house deputy chief of staff saying "it's white boy november" or a secretary of state tweeting that he's "locked in for this banger." grow up.

If a governor cancels elections within 24 hours of being given permission to draw new districts to eliminate Black voting power, is that enough for a headline to call it "racist" or is it still "racially charged" and "racially tinged" and "what some suggest is racially motivated"

I want to be clear that I don’t have anything against any of their books. Publish all the books you want, but don’t market them by shitting on other people‘s work. In the midst of an unprecedented national book banning crisis, anyone calling any book unclean is carrying water for censors.

It's been a hard week & this conversation with @mskellymhayes.bsky.social & @chanda.blacksky.app really brought me back to remembering to move against despair. "It is easy to give in to despair, but now more than ever, we have to be curious and imaginative about how we might get out of this" 🔥🔥🔥
I interviewed @chanda.blacksky.app about her new book, The Edge of Space-Time. We discussed cosmic wonder, the mythology of genius, Deep Space Nine, and thinking beyond false narratives and manufactured inevitabilities. If your brain is stuck in the churn of bad news, you'll want to check this out.

honestly the AI rot in crochet and knitting has been getting worse and worse, from the images to patterns that are just slop. there was a point where you could make sense of a clumsy or bad translation, but these days, no, they AI it, and make it incomprehensible
if you are at the dollar store and see a crochet kit in this packaging DO NOT get it!!! the pattern is completely unworkable and potentially AI-generated

I haven't been to a crafters store, but the amount of AI cross stitch out there is ungodly. Meta apparently pixel tracked my google search for DMC patterns and now my insta feed is full of slop sponcon cross stitch. Etsy is also full of the stuff. Impossible to make. A total scam.

I appreciate him putting this in the category of wars we have lost, at least.
Q: What do you say to the American people who question how much longer this will take? Obviously you know they're having higher gas prices

TRUMP: You're such a disgrace. Did you hear what I just said? How many years was Vietnam?
