In book publishing, we're encouraged to be picky, about what stories we feel compelled to engage with and what will fit the market. And while it can be to your detriment it can also be a strength. Be specific in your writing and audience, you'll get better results

What matters in a romance is tension. You want the characters to have passion and care for each other that feels unique to their relationship. Learn to let your characters feed off each other's energy in a scene

Just because you're writing a romance or high fantasy, doesn't mean you can't focus on your main character's emotional/mental journey. Character-driven stories can be just as impactful as plot-driven ones

The best way to learn how to #write is to READ. You can always learn a bit more about story elements by seeing what other authors do

Finding your #writing style is one of the most important things you can do as an author.

So many publishing decisions and successes hinge on the power and uniqueness of your author's voice

No matter how tempting it is, please do not use AI at any point in the #writingprocess, AI will always add something glaringly bad to your story, and you won't always see it before you publish.

You'll also lose out on valuable experience in doing things yourself

Here are the two major reasons why I think you should aim to finish your manuscript within a year:

1) The whole trad pub process can take YEARS

2) Publishers will edit your manuscript anyway

Your manuscript doesn't have to be perfect, just keep #writing

Tip of the day: you don't have to write linearly!

#writing is hard enough when you have writer's block and daily distractions, if you have more ideas on writing chapter 20 when you're on 9, write 20! What's important is getting the words down

Tip of the day: Limit the time you dedicate to worldbuilding. I know it's addictive to write down a rabbit hole, but for most #books, super extensive worldbuilding is not needed. Give yourself a week for the important stuff and move on

Tip of the day: don't wait for motivation to strike to start #writing! Keeping a steady schedule will get you much further than writing only when inspiration hits.

There's nothing more exciting to me than working with an author and seeing them light up when I suggest something that completely clears their writing block

To all the authors #querying right now, please remember it is your VOICE as an author that catches the attention of agents!

Agents are readers too, and just like any reader they want to be compelled to finish the story. If you have a strong voice, you have a strong pitch

A bit of advice I give to all of my clients: Write like it's in permanent marker.

Too many writers write and then rewrite the same few sections of their manuscript over and over -- which leads to them not finishing it! It's not helpful so please; write now, edit later
