Most LLM cost savings come from prompt caching, not automatic model routing.

Cache is per-model KV state, switch models and it's a full cache miss on your system prompt, even if the text is identical. The real win is cache-aware routing that never routes away from your warm cache. #LLM #Infra

Indeed, as maintainers of open-source projects, we need to ensure that we are guiding real people, not debugging AI.
Has mentoring in open source gotten harder?

I wrote up my #FOSDEM talk on the GitHub blog

The core framework: Comprehension, Context, Continuity. Comprehension and Context get you reviewed. Continuity gets you mentored.

Rethinking open source mentorship in the AI era
As contribution volume grows, mentorship signals are harder to read. The 3 Cs framework helps maintainers mentor more strategically, without burning out.

Most recent products use an interaction model similar to Conductor, allowing multiple projects and tasks to run in parallel, and then adding some other features.

Codex App and Claude Desktop already follow this model, and recently the trend for coding agents may be shifting from CLI to GUI. 😂

I recently tested the mainstream CLI-based coding agents/tools and found that the poorest performance came from OpenAI's Codex. Perhaps their version rewritten in Rust has not been well-tested, as it frequently crashes and has other bugs. Can Codex be used to write its own code? 🤣
