the tide is turning folks. it’s a month late and a trillion dollars short, but it’s turning. even Trump can’t stop it
China's net greenhouse gas emissions *fell* this past quarter.

Why? Because rapidly expanding electric vehicle use is putting a serious dent in oil demand.

We could do that too. But we're not. We have the slowest EV update in the developed world, thanks to Trump.
Analysis: China’s CO2 emissions fall in Q2 2026 due to plummeting oil use - Carbon Brief
China’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions fell by 1% in the second quarter of 2026, as oil consumption plummeted amid the strait of Hormuz crisis.

Amazing, the same people for whom wind turbines are unsightly blots on the landscape: let's build desalination plants
Richard Tice adds that the UK shouldn't worry about drought because "we're surrounded by water".

"There's not much water on land in the Middle East [either]. They use desalination plants"

mildly funny that X is having blazing rows about Nolan’s Odyssey because he cast black people in it and Bluesky is having blazing rows about whether a noted Homeric translator’s LRB review of it misses the point or not

on the bright side, it's kind of awesome that so many people are talking about THE ODYSSEY, the translation the movie is based on, the translator's own thoughts in the LRB, and what a big, ambitious film can mean in a market oversaturated with movies about superheroes and nostalgia for old titles

Is this the film that launched a thousand "well, actually"'s and burnt the topless towers of the LRB

Iran’s New Leader Is More Open to Pursuing a Nuclear Weapon, U.S. Intelligence Says
The previous supreme leader, who was killed early in the war, had renounced nuclear weapons. U.S. spy agencies believe his son is more interested in building a bomb.

Saw Keegan in the first game I ever saw live (Wednesday against Newcastle, along with a youthful Beardsley & Waddle). Near the end of his playing career, but had that presence that all great players have. Though not enough to beat the mighty Wednesday that day. RIP

OTOH this is some really sad cringe shit. “We lost the war but we have a banner.” Ok man.
