Thank you to the Echo for publishing this piece by me on e-scooters and road safety —

Asking why so much airtime and priority is deserved to crackdown on one group of transport users — responsible for 10 pedestrian deaths in Europe in 2024, ahead of another group that's responsible for 2,302?
Cork Views: Why give e-scooter users such a rough ride?
They are cheap, easy, and climate-friendly, so why are e-scooters treated differently on our roads, asks OLIVER MORAN, Green Party Councillor for the ...

Funny how “getting tough” with immigrants while capitulating to fossil fuel and big tech lobbyists seem to be two sides of the same coin for politicians.

For centuries, Tallinn’s Town Hall Square has been the city’s grand civic stage. But like many European plazas, it has suffered several problems: dominated by hard paving, little shade, shelter, or reason to linger without spending money. A tactical urbanism intervention is starting to change that.🧵

The shovel-faced elephant, Platybelodon, looks like a really elaborate prank by paleontologists on a junior colleague. Really take a minute to gaze at that mouth.

We think it used those specialized teeth as a scythe to cut vegetation and strip bark from trees.

Another neat one: I had GPT-6 Astra build a model of a famous never-built buildings, Boullée’s 1784 Centograph. There were only a few black and white sketches to work with, along with a description.

It built a full Blender model & directed a dramatic narrated walkthrough to emphasize its scale.

Love seeing this tiny EV fire engine in Kilkenny, apparently it was a pet project of a previous fireman to get it for the city.

It has 500ltr capacity and is used to get into areas where a normal fire engine cannot, given Kilkenny has lots of narrow lanes this makes sense.
