we've reached a new milestone- the U.S. average diesel price has hit $6.301/gal while gasoline is up to $4.355/gal. I expect both of these to jump noticably over the next 48 hours. diesel could hit $6.60/gal in a few days, surpassing the inflation-adjusted peak seen in 2022.

GasBuddy now counts *18* states where diesel is above $6/gal, 2 states above $7/gal and one state above $8/gal. More states will be joining the $6 club, while the shutdown for turnaround of the Irving Oil refinery in NB could lead to potential spikes this fall for the northeast.

$8 DIESEL: California will be the first state in the nation to ever see an average diesel price of $8/gal- currently at $7.963/gal and up 2 cents already today, give it 24 hours or so. Many stations already surpassing $9, according to GasBuddy data.
