Arguably not as cool as the OCR project, but still helpful. Creating a setup where I connect to a more advanced open-source LLM model using the free-tier Groq cloud service (different from and 7 years older than the similarly named service). Plenty of issues with the translations as-is but cool.

Guess my system still has a few kinks to work out. Most are where everything belongs though. Not bad for a local, low-mid power (I guess?) system.

Although crude and wonky, this system works surprisingly well. Local Qwen model runs open-source OCR software page by page and then checks the flagged the results. These then come back to me to correct and create datasheets, whereupon I do some, make a post about it, and then focus on other things.

This tech is really amazing. Even if you can read everything easily on this image, being able to transcribe it this easily is pretty darn useful. (集古像赞)(明)

Text (it's laudatory verse about the Yellow Emperor aka Yellow Thearch aka Huangdi 黃帝):

黃帝

帝生神靈
卓冠首出
爰制器用
爰造律曆
天地萬物
範圍曲成
混沌既分
漸登文明

That feeling when your AI assistant starts spawning lots of subagents you didn't expect. Even worse (imho) than it getting stuck in a loop. Granted, there are methods/cases where lots of subagents is great.

Finding this feels like walking into the spells and wands store as a muggle. As a muggle, I will probably not be able to actually use any of it.

阿弥陀佛!This book from a Japanese Buddhist organization can be ordered (free, last i checked) 1 per household. They are printed in English and other languages (including bilingual editions). This book (not this copy, an English one) made me a lifelong fan of Buddhism (among other traditions)

Fun fact: Adam Smith (1723-1790) was an advocate for regulating the banking industry. (Wealth of Nations, Book 2, Chapter 2). I'm not familiar with economics but most people who parrot about him seem to be informed by stereotype (a form of delusion).

Yes, I believe that even if my attempt to use local LLMs sputters out, it will still have been worth the ride for what I learn about the technology and other things besides. Still hopeful that I just need to build the right machinery for this project (which is being pantsed more than plotted.

My experience with trying to use local LLM's is kinda like coffee. It's the same stuff whether you make it at home or get it in a cafe. Except at the cafe it's way fancier and they have all these nice things that make the coffee experience way different.

Probably going to spend a weak trying to change the settings on how/if at all to render the glosses/pinyin the target output...

Easy enough to find if you Google 'polyglottic three character classic'

Somehow I doubt this was widely used or effective. Question is, if so, why go through all that trouble illustrating it and adding an entry?

Not saying the output will be any good, but it doesn't touch my (spent) token limits... get it while it's hot?

西郊泣麟 - captures the sense of how it feels watching our society and institutions over the past decade or so. We should all be more inclusive and socially engaged in ways that bring us all together. There's something wrong when two halves of ones society become so bitterly divided.

I feel like 儒行 (at least the 孔子家语 version; it is also in the 礼记) is way underrated in early philosophical narratives

..

Maybe it's self-serving, but surely learning the GUI is more useful for teaching others and I'm no power user anyway, right? 😶‍🌫️
