Arguably not as cool as the OCR project, but still helpful. Creating a setup where I connect to a more advanced open-source LLM model using the free-tier Groq cloud service (different from and 7 years older than the similarly named service). Plenty of issues with the translations as-is but cool.

Although crude and wonky, this system works surprisingly well. Local Qwen model runs open-source OCR software page by page and then checks the flagged the results. These then come back to me to correct and create datasheets, whereupon I do some, make a post about it, and then focus on other things.

Anyone who thinks they cannot code: if you can write a prompt, open files with notepad, copy+paste, etc. you can do many nifty things with python (and I assume other languages), data files, and so on. I hope more humanities people will pioneer uses for these tools and influence the tech development.

We have such a profitable system that we could easily take much care of our own people and the rich would still have plenty left over for themselves. there is something definitely ""materialist"" as defining "working class" in terms of education instead of income
i like that their methodology would classify someone making $150k as working class if they don't have a college degree, but someone making 50k who has a college degree isn't.

Independently collating and punctuating old public domain texts solo is a much bigger undertaking than I realized. Found enough slips during proofreading that I am halting sales by (prohibitively) upping the prices on my three main offerings (金刚经，周易，素书) until updated.

The landscape may shift, but for now this adequately captures my stereotype of Google Gemini. Quick, confident, and most likely to be totally wrong.
I've been checking the source of quotes for my forthcoming book, and the performance of Gemini is extraordinary. I paste the quote into Google, and Gemini will barge in with the wrong answer over and over again. It's not an occasional thing - it's reliably wrong. Very odd.
Twice in the last week I've pasted a quotation into Google to check the source, and Gemini has barged in with the wrong answer. CS Lewis quote from The Seeing Eye (1967) was placed in The Screwtape Letters (1942). Alfred Loftus quote (1857) attributed to Austen Layard (1849). Gemini 0/2.
