Internal cable routing and one-piece cockpits are terrible value, almost guaranteed to compromise fit and a bad idea for anyone who isn't paid to race a bike. Good chance taking your phone out of your cargo bibs will make more aero difference than any of this marketing nonsense. youtu.be/LPTptOYT6Jg

The electricity market generators use batteries to cut their costs and I've used my solar/home battery to negate their peak ToU pricing, even on a cloudy Melbourne winter day. What is ToU pricing? Why does the cost of electricity change thought out the day?

Two updates: I've been looking into the effects of ToU energy plans and how they interact with scheduled loads like EV charging, home battery forced loading, and heat pump water heater scheduling. I've also organised all of this into the Home Decarbonisation Project. crossgeared.com/decarb

The c. 1994 Powerbar is back, right down to the gold foil wrapper.

Good luck Silca Super Secret 2.0, you're going to need it.

Over the past few years I've been decarbonising our house in Melbourne: heat pump everything, solar, home battery, induction, EVs, and no more gas. A @billmckibben.bsky.social @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social interview inspired me to share my reasoning, detailed process, and results. crossgeared.com/decarb

It's 2026, so my road tyres are now wider than my CX / gravel tyres. Which is more fun on singletrack, the 38mm Corsa Control or the 35mm Mezcal? 🤔

#paulcomp was kind enough to make a custom #NOQR seatpost collar with my first initial. Nice. 😉 #purple #titanium #lynskey

This one doesn’t have any inspirational wall art, but does have some burned paint from a torch and a broken Garmin mount. I still had a good ride. 🤷‍♂️

Life is too short to ride shit bikes #fyxo. Have a good ride #paulcomp. Both are good advice.

Someone should let Michelin know there's an XCO/XCC race going through their ad. I think the old ads were somehow more tolerable with Rob Warner screaming over the feed. These tree sponsors are a bit much.

My '09 #KonaBikes Unit. A #steel #rigid #29er #singlespeed with a #dropper and carbon wheels??? 🤯 About 10 years in its current configuration, many times cracked, many times fixed, doesn't need a fork/shock service every 50 hours, very fun and still one of my favourites.

It looks like #hookless rims may be on the way out (www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftRD...), at least according to Josh Poertner at #Silca. Now, can we now do the same for internal headset cable routing?

I think this divergent #colorbrewer palette is more appropriate.

I was listening to this week’s Geek Warning from the @escapecollective.bsky.social and thinking about the current trends in cycling and my levels of interest. And speaking of trends, I vibe-coded my thoughts into this R/ggplot plot using Claude 4. #bikesky #cycling #bikepacking #gravel #chainwaxing

Great interview from James Huang with Richard Schwinn about #Gunnar / #Waterford history and what’s next. My 2001 Crosshairs a few years ago at a Metro station in Melbourne on a bike packing ride to Warrnambool. #cycling #gravel #bikepacking

Great news over at @theradavist regarding #gunnarcycles! I’m interested to see how they go with the custom paint options. #gunnarcrosshairs

Great writeup comparing a range of Maxxis #MTB tyres from #flowmountainbike mag. I've ridden most of these and always appreciate more tyre perspectives. My current pick for summer Melbourne singletrack: Rekon MaxxTerra 3C 29x2.6/Rekon Race 29x2.4 (F/R)

There’s a great article on the costs and externalities of electronic shifting at bikepacking.com/plog/cost-of-convenience-wireless-shifting-review. It got me thinking about my drivetrains, especially the simple and versatile Gevenalle shifter. 🐐 #bikepacking #cycling #gravel #dropbarmtb #gevenalle
