We can't be trusted, period. We'd need a complete constitutional overhaul to put in place the kind of assurances the rest of the world would need to trust us again, and that won't happen without massive tragedies.

FWIW I don’t think that AI is an existential threat, nor on track to become one. I do however think that the leaders of the biggest AI companies, AI’s strongest boosters, and some of the folks who are most adept at using it to exploit others are actively hastening along OTHER existential threats.

As I've gotten older, I'd stopped finding any catharsis in the suffering of bad people.
Not that I don't want them to face justice – even violent justice if that is the only way that person can be stopped – but this collective need for retribution effectively through torture does not appeal to me.
