I've seen people I knew when I lived in Texas become raging Islamophobes over the past year, thanks to this rhetoric. I've had the "yes, in fact Islam is a religion," argument several times. They are convinced America is doomed, and yet think they are the rational ones. It's scary.

Even in the 21-22 school year, we were constantly closing classrooms temporarily because the kids and teacher had Covid and there were no subs available to teach the remaining kids! This was in a place with generally decent precautions.

Worth noting that these folks live in Texas where the state party has made Islamophobia their brand; it diverts attention from the fact that they are now requiring kids to read the Bible in school and for teachers to put up the Ten Commandments.
