This is me with the students I mentor. In all aspects. Which can be a problem.
This just came across one of my feeds, and all I can say is “yes, this is me” but also a warning to always protect yourself too.

I’m still learning to be there for people while not overextending myself

We’re going to hear about how everyone loved Dolly, and that feels true. But it’s good to remember, and to her credit, that she was attacked for her AIDS activism, her vaccine advocacy, her LGBTQ+ support and even, more recently, for her reading initiatives. She ALWAYS stood firm when it mattered.

I was always a reader, but the book that changed everything about reading for me was Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey. My 7th grade English teacher gave it to me when I blew through all the assigned reading and was bored. It started by obsession with fantasy and sci fi.
In honor of Dolly and her commitment to getting books to kids, tell me about a book you read as a child that changed your life.

I’ll start: so many, but tonight maybe I’ll say A WRINKLE IN TIME, a book that taught me anger wasn’t wrong.

I will fight the greigification until I die.

I want one of those brilliantly-colored, embellished Victorian houses (ultramarine blue with multicolored trim, please!) Half the fun of buying a house is painting rooms however I want. I want a teal car. I want intensely-saturated clothes.

Fuck grey.

🧵on how AI doesn’t just affect kids learning and critical thinking skills, but also ethics and empathy.

AI is dehumanizing technology, and with young developing brains, this has scary implications for what society will look like when kids grow up without those skills.

I was a 911 dispatcher for a decade.

To really understand how terrible an idea it is to have AI answer 911 calls, I'll present you with a single real-life call:

Upon answer, the caller calmly began ordering a pizza. Large, pepperoni. Side order of chicken wings. To be delivered promptly.
AI has no place in 911 calls. From Mystery AI Hype Theater 3000’s latest episode “State of Emergency”.
