People will scoff at a $1,000 bike but if you can commute with it half the time or more, it will eventually pay for itself with what you’re saving in fuel costs and will extend the life of your vehicle. You may also surprise yourself and enjoy the commute instead.
“The share of new-vehicle buyers to commit to monthly payments of $1,000 or more hit an all-time high of 19.3%, or nearly 1 in 5 consumers… The average monthly payment was $756.”

Forced car dependency was a very, very bad idea.
Car buyers set a record with more than $1,000-a-month car payments in Q2
One in five car buyers in the second quarter agreed to a $1,000-a-month car loan payment and increasingly more are taking out seven-year-long loans.

These paths don’t require the level of ongoing maintenance, closures, and expense associated with regular streets, too. People who will use these paths like them. They’re good investments.
When we talk about bike infrastructure in the U.S. you'll often hear from suburban and rural folks that, "No one bikes here!" because they don't consider nondrivers.

People will bike (or roll) if you give them safe, accessible infrastructure. Many super wide roads in the U.S. could accomodate this.
Separate cycle tracks alongside rural main roads give the elderly or people with mobility issues far more freedom.

Someone on a mobility scooter can travel safely from town to town, without having to rely on a car or public transport.

This is what accessible transport infrastructure looks like.

Beginner running advice I’ve been reading:
Stay in zone 2
Also walk
Also increase cadence
Also increase aerobic base but WALK
Also 7:50/mile is an “easy run”

I’m genuinely and generally happy to be out running again, but I do feel occasionally sad about absolutely sucking shit at this after 15 years of not doing it.

I’ve biked almost every day this summer and have only gassed up my SUV once.

The Trump administration is doing this while they are actively fighting any attempts to expand transit options, including biking. They want to entrench car dependency while also making it even more expensive.

This is my first attempt at running in over a year and my first real run in many years. Cycling helps but running is its own thing and there’s no shortcut to it. Take your rest days and push a bit more each week. Glad I lost 20 pounds this year.
