#1: do not obey in advance.
If the US had outright surrendered, how would this deal have looked any different?

The lip service to the nuclear / NPT stuff would have been mandated by the international community anyway, that's not a real concession.

What else in here says is Iran is actually giving up *anything*??
Mehr releases what it says are details of the Iran-US MoU:

I do not know who needs to hear this, but the answer to gun violence in America is not - and never will be - a ballroom.

The guns are the problem, and Temu Versailles isn't gonna change that.
BRENNAN: The shooter had multiple weapons. You said he traveled from CA across the country by train. How did he do that?

BLANCHE: This isn't about making laws more restrictive

BRENNAN: I'm asking about crossing state lines w/firearms

BLANCHE: I don't think that's something we should be focused on

Coal is such a bizarre fly ash hill to die on.

It hasn't been the dominant source of our electricity for decades, and, in terms of employment, *around 50 times more people* drive for ride share services than work in coal.

McDonalds *corporate* alone employs more folks than coal does.

Bizarre. 🤷‍♂️
Energy Secretary Chris Wright: "I'm pretty confident coal will lead the world in global electricity production when I die"

Making tenure count, for MSNOW I wrote about my employer, The University of Iowa, creating a center for intellectual freedom. It's a reactionary project built on decades of conservative propaganda about higher ed.

Simple as that.

It's one thing for Uni admin to stay quiet, quite another to actively punish faculty who speak up.

Higher Ed is valued for what it shows us abt how the world has been, how it is, and *how it could be*.

To teach that, but prevent folks from working to achieve it, makes it all ring kinda hollow.
I find amazing the deafening silence from US universities on Trump's explicit threats to commit war crimes. It is astounding how he has managed to silence them/us. Is this what we agreed to when we bought into institutional neutrality?

Whether or not these words become actions, the words are awful enough. I've spent my time and money to keep him out of office each time he's run - and I'll do it again for whoever follows in his footsteps.

@schumer.senate.gov , @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social , before anybody gets carried away with excuses and caveats and "deal points", let's get one thing straight: the only acceptable answer here is "***absolutely fucking not***".

No nuance, no "movement", no imaginary centrist pandering.

Just "No".
Trump is asking Congress for a $1.5 TRILLION military budget in fiscal year 2027. A massive increase. Pentagon funding hit $1 trillion last year between appropriations and party-line reconciliation legislation.

The military has failed to pass an audit for eight straight years.

What I find most surreal about modern efforts to reinterpret the "original" meaning of the 14th amendment is what do today's asshats think slavery's supporters were doing? *Stephen Miller* is really going to uncover some magical meaning that escaped the notice of the entire the pro-slavery South? 🙄

We make ourselves infinitely safer as a society when every one of our children is fed at school than we could ever be by spending $200 billion to bomb another nation's children.

When we house our poorest, and every American can live a life filled with dignity, we are all safer. Better.

Always.
It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford. It’s about priorities.

Based on, well, all of recorded history, "weeks" for a successful ground invasion in the Middle East is not a thing.

The first story is fear; the second is how economies work.

Maybe Europe should start a new program, "Voice *to* America", and provide pro-Democracy + accurate news about the regime radio broadcasts to us . . .
New in PN: Kari Lake's shambolic dismantling of VOA

"Trump hopes to turn VOA into a North Korea-style mouthpiece to broadcast MAGA agitprop worldwide. Indeed, some of its recent output reads less like reporting & more like something produced by WH comms shop - which is just how Lake views her role"
Kari Lake's dismantling of VOA is a full-blown fiasco
It's just as shambolic as her political career.

If they know something is wrong, will say it's wrong behind closed doors, but don't do anything about it - or even admit it - publicly cuz that would threaten their personal status . . . are they actually "good people"?

🤔
Booker: "There are really good people in the Senate on both sides of the aisle, and I have these private conversations with my colleagues about what's wrong. But they're afraid or unwilling to say these things publicly. And that is the crisis that we're in. It's a crisis of conviction."
