You can also reject the culture of compulsory confession that online culture has worsened. You don't have to publicly reveal past trauma or experiences to speak. Finally, take care of yourself if you're a survivor.

I've been fundraising for 40 years from the grassroots level to the larger institutional funder level. I don't remember things being as difficult as they've been over the past 18 months in particular. I had to fundraise through the 2008-09 crash and it wasn't this bad.

Yup! Most companies moved to unlimited PTO to eliminate large Accrued Vacation Payable balances that could introduce volatility in their financial results after significant layoffs or headcount reductions. They didn’t actually want employees to benefit from the policy from a work-life standpoint. 🫠
A friend of mine has an unlimited PTO job and they definitely be clocking how much PTO you take.

Just because conservatives don’t always do the reading doesn’t mean you should skimp on doing the reading

This should be obvious but I see a lot of people reacting to headlines in ways that don’t make sense unless they didn’t do the reading

Do the reading

A Labor Day Reminder:

The biggest beneficiary of prison labor isn't a private company. It's the prisons themselves.

This is and is not a joke. My core issue with the breathless AI discourse is how it assumes that the collective we need to skip straight to advanced level things because this new technology can "do" those mundane tasks of that come with knowledge work when that's where skill development happens.
Digital skill building for the workplace (learning how to actually use Word and write advanced Excel formulas).

Can't believe these Ivory Tower academics left merely because the American government decided it should arbitrarily revoke research funding and visas, dictate what scholars publish & teach, and send students & assistants to concentration camps.
More brain drain:

“Twenty-one universities in Canada announced on Thursday the hiring of dozens of researchers to join their top academic ranks, poaching the majority of the recruits from the United States.

Of the incoming 64 researchers, 48 will leave American campuses…”
Canada Hires U.S. Scholars From Harvard and Other Top Universities (Gift Article)
A crackdown on American academia by the Trump administration has handed Canadian universities a rare opportunity to lure some top researchers north.

One of them? Added a creative writing major so they could be sure to “actually learn something the analog way”.

Not only are prisons lethal, but the incarcerated population is rapidly aging. Older people now make up 5x as much of the prison population as 3 decades ago.

Turning prisons into “makeshift nursing homes” is one of the U.S.'s most wasteful, morally bankrupt experiments to date.

That means thousands of children across the country, including hundreds being held in detention, are losing access to government-provided legal representation. (1/5)
