both 4chan and tumblr (the two definitive websites influencing anglosphere netculture in the mid 2010s onward) are like deeply anti-intellectual places but for different reasons if that makes sense. out of divergences from similarities around race and androcentric biases

I really wish people online would be more careful about "This one bad thing is actually just a special case of this other bad thing"-type rhetoric, because if you don't step back and think critically for a bit, you'll be saying stuff like "homophobia is just imperialism against the middle class"

In 2026, we are gatekeeping feminism. If you call yourself a feminist:

Feminism’s greatest internal war is over sexual violence: between those feminists who insist (as I do) that rape is at the root of women’s oppression, and those whose loyalty to sex, or strategic assessments, make them feel that such a claim is inherently dangerous. For decades, the later camp won.
One thing I remember and hardly anyone seems to is that there's a sort of sexual revolution interregnum when all sex was good (seen from the adult male perspective, which it mostly was) including sex with children, which was publicly defended. Feminism, mostly, is what changed that.

Trans people were abandoned. Trans women were turned into a fetishistic symbol to motivate fascist hatred and buy-in. Women of color were abandoned too, with the pervasive narrative of feminism being "unable to account for race" repeated with no substantiation to solidify that abandonment.

Instead of building an inclusive feminism focused on the margins, a lot of "critique" effectively became anti-solidarity projects with institutional backing, misappropriating ideas like 'intersectionality' and 'coloniality' to argue that actually, we can't all work together.

I remain genuinely shocked that the American public saw what USA Gymnastics did for over a decade and then let a bunch of people persuade them that all school level sports k-12 should be under the same rules as the U.S. Olympic ecosystem because trans people asked to play on teams where they’d fit.

the future of any trans politics needs to actually put changing your presentation on a continuum with changing sex itself, and focus on deconstructing sexing the body (renaming, reinterpretation, HRT, surgery, etc) i.e. "all trans/nb ppl engage in degrees of transsexuality"
