not sure the TV or film adap will do it justice but the book, The Doll (Lalka, in Polish) is an incredible read - Bolesław Prus was a journalist first, novelist second, and other than this being "fiction" the story reads more like literary journalism

One of the great joys of my adult life has been realizing that I can just pick up a new skill every so often, take a fun little class in it weekly for a year or two, and simply enjoy meeting people and getting medium proficient and not attempting to become professional in it at all!

He did so after he found out how hard it is to get a legal abortion in Poland.
