I write things sometimes. I like baseball. I care about the San Diego Padres more than a normal human being should. I live in MN. It’s probably cold right now.

The value of The Athletic was always its depth and its role as a replacement/improvement on local coverage that had gone away due to the death of newspapers. The fact that it's ratcheting back on local to morph into ESPN's web page circa 2009 is fucking dumb. bsky.app/profile/aaro...
My big news: I've left The Athletic because they wanted me to stop covering the Twins.

I refused to give up my dream, so I'm betting on myself and returning to my independent roots.

I need your support to make it work. Join me and let's do this together: www.aarongleeman.com/welcome-to-t...

Anyway. I’m glad nobody was hurt and I’m sure the journalists who attended the WHCD will not center themselves and their personal experiences and instead remain focused on holding the powerful accountable and informing the people about their government.

The Columbine massacre was on this date in 1999. Instead of energizing our country to get gun violence under control, it kicked off a new normal. One of the best explanations ever of journalism's destructive impact on mass shootings came from Roger Ebert in his review of Gus Van Sant’s “Elephant.”

An overconfident Team USA getting embarrassed by a much smaller country in front of a global audience is their last and most beautiful tribute to the American military yet

They launched a coup, suffered no consequences for it, won back power, and have used the power to pardon everyone involved while remaking the country through violence and intimidation. It’s just ridiculous to talk about the political violence of yelling at ICE agents within that context.
