On Suella Braverman's comments about Englishness (though I will change it to Britishness as I'm not English): I have a foreign-born parent but nobody has ever asked me where I'm really from or questioned my Britishness, because I'm white. That's why people are saying her comments are racist.

Over the last few months these guys made me proud to be British: kind, practical, profoundly moral, a testament to this island. Now they're targeted by the very worst of us. I just gave them a bunch of money. You should too. Show those fascist clowns what's what.

One more time: Inheritance tax *is not unique or even uncommon* in being "double taxation". The coffee I just bought was paid for with wages on which income tax and NI had been levied, but was also subject to VAT. Just stop it.

I just think that risking your life at a moment's notice to save people you've never met in exchange for no money is a better expression of patriotism than dressing up like a Poundshop paramilitary and intimidating families with kids trying to get onto a ferry.

Struggling to work out why Jenrick would single out these three Commonwealth countries rather than, say, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, whose citizens have exactly the same rights. It’s a head-scratcher.

Got two tickets for Pulp at Wythenshawe Park tomorrow going spare. £140 face value but would take £100.

How many people are even on Bluesky to see this? Not shifting these, am I.

It would be impossible to guess any of this from most media coverage.
New immigration stats show that the numbers of asylum seekers in hotels is down to 16k - falling 50% in a year.

Small boat crossings down 23% in the year to June.

Numbers waiting for initial decision down from almost 180k to 40k.

I just knew we'd get this bollocks.

Farage - like the Telegraph- doesn't want progress or anything to improve he just wants Britain to sit in a miserable slump in which he can holler constantly about "migrants" and drink pints in slow motion videos with people who pine for WW2.

The state of this. A lovely day out for Badenoch and Philp, playing dress up and making pronouncements about early release schemes - having left the country with one hundred available men's prison places, after fourteen years in charge.

You read that right. One hundred places.

I’m not sure whether this is just a psychological difference or AI bros fundamentally don’t understand the nature of an artistic experience, but: I don’t want a personalised film/book/podcast. I want to see/read/hear the same one as everyone else, so I can read reviews or discuss it with my friends

I think the thing I resent most about gen AI- and this is a selfish thing to say but it’s true- is that it’s put an asterix on my sense of wonder.
What I mean is that now when I see an amazing or beautiful image I can’t have that initial “wow!” reaction. I doubt. I have to verify. I hate it.

The polar opposite reactions here to the deaths of Sam Neill and Lindsey Graham are such a reminder that we all have a choice whether to live our lives in a way that brings joy or misery to those around us. I think if you’re remembered fondly as Sam Neill is today, you’ve pretty much won at life.
