I feel like a subset of people online conflate “protesting and activism” with “posting about things online”

A reminder that involvement in protests should not be posted, and just because someone isn’t posting about an issue doesn’t mean they don’t care about it.
DON'T talk about it to your peers.
DON'T tell your parents.
DON'T post about it on social media.
DON'T go into it thinking you're gonna be a folk hero.
DO what you can, with what you have.

It is hard to picture a world in which Tim Schafer "accidentally" laid off specifically every person in his company who had led a Unionization effort or supported it.

Very tough to imagine that being an accident, and kind of fatally sabotages Tim's "good guy" vibes.

People don't believe me, but I'm TELLING you, there MUST be an active campaign strategy happening in media published by WB or other parts of JK's team trying to force HP awkwardly and unnaturally into public consciousness. Certainly from the WB side, I've seen multiple properties doing it already.
Scholastic sent me a whole box of paperback copies of Sorcerer’s Stone that I sure didn't order.

When I asked why, my rep told me they're sending complimentary giveaway copies to random schools that do Book Fair.

Have you noticed, lately, or noticed people around you commenting, that there just seems to be no money anymore. There's no money for companies to make the tv shows you like, the video games you like, the local diner you like shut down, no one you know can find a job.

Think about that in context of
AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP.

Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down.

"AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago.

We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.
Part of why I don't like the AI-or-bust economy is the constant flopsweat of people on the news who say this HAS to work. Quit making everyone so anxious. Goddamn. If this is the next Google then why are you acting like this? I don't remember being told to buy an iPhone at gunpoint.

A world where a twist ending is repurposed as a video title. where a thing's climax has been removed, leaving an advertisment for the gap where it used to be. such things are commonplace in. the twilight zone

Okay, my media-illiterate people with tiny baby brains:

Understand that when people mistreat sentient robots and computers in fiction it's a commentary on how we treat other people, usually marginalized groups.

It is not and has never been about the possibility machines are or could be people.

I'm not purity testing anyone. I'm saying YOUR STRATEGY KEEPS FUCKING FAILING AND KILLING US.

As a new Harry Potter trailer makes the rounds, it bears repeating that there’s no way to watch this show without supporting J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting on the trans community.
There is no ethical consumption of HBO’s Harry Potter series
You can’t without supporting Rowling’s transphobic bigotry.

What Trump just said is basically an admission of genocide being a policy goal for the administration.
Someday soon hes going to be over and trans folk will continue to exist and, hopefully, thrive, for as long as there are humans on this planet.

LLMs cease to be useful when they can't be used to scam people into unknowingly reading slop anymore.

When the typewriter was invented, no one had to pretend its output was handwritten to get people to accept it. Typing had its own utility.

LLMs are scamtech that have no utility outside the scam.
