A fitting choice since, due to timezone shenanigans, Newfoundland is a half hour ahead of the mainland and Saint-Pierre is a half hour ahead of Newfoundland, so though Newfoundland is closer to Europe in kilometres, Saint-Pierre is closer to Europe in time.

Two things to know about "IQ curves." (1) They don't look like that. Psychometricians create tests to get the curves they want. (2) The implicit assumption is always that the curves have a strong genetic component. Otherwise, they provide evidence that environments should be greatly improved.

Tim Curry as Long John Silver is certainly a childhood favourite for me. His relationship with a muppet pig was always such an amazing detail to have in a kid’s movie. I can’t even say they snuck it in, it’s a major joke!

I think we should stop leaning into heritage whimsy for Newfoundland tourism ads and start marketing that we are at the crossroads of several abyssal horrors.
