Biophysics of membranes & biomolecular condesates
Reposted by Agustín Mangiarotti
Under a microscope, biomolecular condensates look like tiny droplets. But what exactly is inside them? 🧫

A new paper in Advanced Science presents a label-free approach combining Raman spectroscopy and spectral phasor analysis to map the chemical composition of biomolecular condensates in situ. ⬇️⬇️

This review with Agu @mangiarotti.bsky.social 🙏on a topic close to my heart -membranes&condensates- came out some time ago.Only after receiving the printed issue,I realized it's on the journal cover. It does not have much to do with plants, but droplets on thin surfaces is kind of what it is about.

New mini-review out ⚡🧬
Together with Natalia Wilke we critically compare the methods used to measure condensate electric properties, highlight the unexplored membrane-condensate interface and close with some open questions in the field.

🧪🇦🇷 Excited to share our latest paper done together with Natalia Wilke, just out in Soft Matter!

The take-home message: anchor lipids deserve to be treated as active membrane components when interpreting protein- and condensate-membrane interactions.

NTA-Ni lipids affect membrane phase behavior and fluorescence of lipid-like dyes
The nitrilotriacetic acid group coordinated with nickel, NTA(Ni), is the standard chelator for purifying fusion proteins containing poly-histidine tags. The development of lipids with NTA(Ni) headgrou...

How do biomolecular condensates🫧 interact with membranes? We show that dielectric permittivity contrast between coexisting phases directly governs condensate wetting behavior.

It was my pleasure to present at the SAIB Lipids Symposium for the first time. I had very enriching discussions about the role of membranes and condensates in cell biology!

1/3 📢 New work from our lab 📢 We uncover a unifying dielectric principle for biomolecular condensates! 💦Contrary to intuition, we find that it is not a condensate’s absolute polarity, but the permittivity contrast with its surroundings, that governs its affinity for membranes. #GUV #condensates

1/8 Exciting new work with Agu @mangiarotti.bsky.social @mpici.bsky.social ! 🚀 Our latest study explores how lipid packing and cholesterol regulate the interaction of biomolecular condensates with membranes. It turns out, it’s not just about membrane phase. Packing is the key! 🧵👇
