I've said it before, I'll say it again: As a society we would never accept the level of injury and death we do on the roads in a place of work. PPE is always the last line of defense

Just another day in the life of a person that some times uses bike instead of a car and gets abused for it. Today was a Taxi driver beeping their horn and shouting at me for slowing down traffic after passing me dangerously to get to a red light n seconds quicker 😕

We took traffic laws explicitly designed to manage the deadly physics of multi-ton motor vehicles and applied them directly to bicycles. When your only regulatory tool is a hammer, every vehicle looks like a nail. In cities, bicycles simply shouldn't be governed like cars. It's lazy policy.
Do they, though?

It has been over 10 years since the BearsWay cycle lane phase 1 was completed. Due to angry, ignorant voices none of the following phases were built That was and still is a tragedy. With nearby Glasgow investing in active travel it is time for East Dunbartonshire to finish the #bearsway!

This petition is to get our local bike lane completed. Phase 1 was completed in 2015 and to date it is left unfinished due to a few local & very vocal NIMBYs

In the same vain, this is an interesting piece as well. Goes in to the science around driver awareness. Basically light up any bits that move i.e. your legs.

First commute in to the office in a while.

Had to stick to the roads this morning due to main beam light issues. Promise I'll get a more scenic pic tomorrow @plotfolk.bsky.social

One day hopefully we will look back on the reduction on speed limits the same way we do the smoking ban. Individual needs should not come at the expense of the safety of wider society

“Helsinki has not recorded a single traffic fatality in the past 12 months, city and police officials confirmed this week.”

City engineer credits lower speed limits and smart design.

I agree. #Helsinki #VisionZero
Helsinki goes a full year without a traffic death
A city traffic engineer credits the success to lower speed limits and smarter design.

And this is even more important in third-world countries like the USA, where asbestos is still allowed to be used in brake pads.

Was scanning the @theguardian.com site & noticed the good news that England qualified 4 the quarter finals of the #wrwc Also that unfortunately Wales were knocked out 😕 &, in keeping with their usual reporting standards, not 1 mention of how Scotland got on, spoiler alert they also qualified.

Overheard at the playground:

“I’m seeing all of these parents pull up w/ their kids on cargo bikes & thinking I should try biking here next time.”

Do not underestimate the potential inspiration & motivation you might offer simply by riding your bike.

Hey @theguardian.com you guys know that England isn't all of the UK right? Just checking as this article about water shortages in England seems to be showing a map of the UK. I checled and only 1 reference to 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and 0 to NI and 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿.
How can England possibly be running out of water?
While famously rainswept, climate crisis, population growth and profligacy mean the once unthinkable could be possible

This is a brilliant idea (if infuriating it is needed). I can't help feel though that the proposed outcome of using the data to redirect cyclists to quieter routes misses the mark completely. Surely a better use of these data would be to identify the best locations for new cycle infra
