The UK Road Safety Strategy adopts a Safe System approach with a target of a 65% reduction in KSIs by 2035. With lower urban/village 20mph implicit within a Safe System culture they will become the norm in the UK. #20splenty is making our places fit for the 21st century.

The Welsh 20mph default is arguably the most successful road safety initiative this century. Winning international road safety awards, reducing casualties by 26% and insurance premiums. Yes, more should have been spent on engagement, but its a winning policy. www.20splenty.org/wales-pma-20mph

In the 12 months before Wales set a national 20mph default there were 630 (35%) more people killed or injured on the same roads compared to the 12 months after. How many of those would be considered "acceptable" in order to save an average of a minute on a journey? #20splenty where people are!

If only we could take 3 countries with the same cars, laws, etc, change most 30mph speed limits to 20mph in one of them and measure the results. Wales did that and now a Senedd Research report has shown how casualties dropped, -23.8% compared to England -5.2% and Scotland +3.1%. #20splenty

Positive that Labour, Conservative & Reform mayors have got behind this - sign we’ve moved on from the dark days of transport policy at the end of the last gov.
