Even at the genus level, we see sibling genera that are disjunct across E North America & E Asia. One of the best examples is Taxodium in E North America & Glyptostrobus in E Asia. 📷1: T. distichum var. imbricarium, ENA. 📷2: G. pensilis, Isidro Martínez CCBYNCSA2, EA. #Cupressaceae #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

Eriospermum titanopsoides (📷: Vera Frith CCBYNC4) doesn't have crazy enations, but it has the most amazingly undulating margin, giving more edge area for fog interception & dew condensation. The photographer’s fingertip shows just how small these plants are. #Asparagaceae #fog #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

Subfamily Duparquetioideae has just 1 genus with 3 spp. Duparquetia orchidacea (📷: Maël Dewynter CCBYNC4) is a liana of tropical West Africa. The flower is vaguely orchid-like. The 4 sepals are petaloid; petals 4 with a glandular fringe; anthers 4. It’s a weird legume! #Fabaceae #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

Dung moss, Tetraplodon mnoides. As the common name suggests, it often grows on animal dung, but can also grow on bones, antlers and other substrates. Always an eye catcher for its striking colours.

Maybe a weird thing to complain about but for some reason there's a ton of porn, especially furry porn, that's tagged with botany terms on here and when I'm just trying to read up on plants and follow the latest from my field I am inundated with anthro furry cock.
