RT if you’ve never had a tab of ChatGPT open

Zero interest or allure. Less so as more information about it comes out
RT if you've never had a tab of ChatGPT open, period.

The only AI I 'use' is shit foisted on me - summaries and slop vomited on my screen as part of internet browsing or injected into programs I work with until I turn those settings off or rip those parts out by the roots.

I now know what gun experts (both sides) hear when well-meaning people use terms like "assault weapons" because I have tasted of data center discourse.

1. It's ok to not like AI
2. We've been making datacenters for decades. It's like 1.5 issues: Power + water. You can fix both by regulations.

NSF is about to dismantle NCAR at Russell Vought's direction to protect the fossil fuel industry. It's hard to communicate just how much NCAR does, so let's take a look: I've never worked at NCAR, and I've worked with NCAR researchers once ever. What scientific discoveries has NCAR made possible? 👇

This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

I just want to point out that there is a lane for someone to start a small media company whose express mission statement is "nothing we put on the internet was made by AI" & every time a category gets overrun like this, they branch out
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

Here's a Friday Shop Plug for my spooky lino prints.
If I can sell at least one print today I'll treat myself to a book I've seen on subterranean underworlds, so there's everything to play for.
Reposts would be nice, but I won't hunt you down if you don't want to...

I thought the worst thing about it was the ridiculous hyper-airbrushed texture we’ve come to expect from this nonsense technology and then I saw the actual full ad and apparently this fake woman made of environmental ruin and stolen art is about eight feet tall

The "work for hire"/freelance set-up of comics work is not great for most creators, in terms of long-term benefit. This is one reason (among others) to actively support creator-owned comics when you can, alongside the work you may enjoy from Marvel/DC/etc.
Watching comic writers/artists beg for money for medical bills, while their creations reap billions, has been quite eye-opening.

Now maybe more relevant than before! I’m adding new species from my files as quickly as I have time; even more taxa than what I have personally seen will eventually be included, as folk from around the world have kindly offered to donate their photography.
GenAI has polluted image search results, especially for animal pics. It’s now basically impossible to find accurate art references.

Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.
