the thing about "separating the art from the artist" is that it comes from academic circles where they were trying to separate an artist's views from an interpretation of their work as an intellectual exercise, not as a way to give people moral carte blanche to support shitty people

As someone who has been tweeted about personally by Rowling. And who spends my whole life trying to fight the damage caused by the litigation she funds. I think, personally, I would be less harmed by you giving me an actual kick in the ribs than watching the new Harry Potter & trying to justify it.
As a new Harry Potter trailer makes the rounds, it bears repeating that there’s no way to watch this show without supporting J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting on the trans community.
There is no ethical consumption of HBO’s Harry Potter series

FWIW from my teeny tiny perspective as a freelance writer, I am not going to watch the Harry Potter show, I am not going to pitch on it, and I will decline any assignments if offered. I could really use the money, but it's not worth the cost of hurting trans lives.
I don't know how effective a viewer boycott of the show could be--I guess we'll see--but I do think a media boycott would have some impact. If all the websites that would ordinarily cover this from every angle just greet it with oceans of silence...maybe it'd mean something.

A month later and no answers/accountability. Instead, the story seems to be fading out of the mainstream. A 1-year-old was shot by the police over an accusation of shoplifting a box of diapers. This should talked about nonstop on every national media outlet until the officer is held accountable.
In a society that actually cares about people, someone who's even believed to be stealing diapers would be met with assistance, resources, and money to make sure they would never again feel like they must steal for their basic needs.
