Griping over KPop Demon Hunters getting a Criterion disc is odd given that 1. the alternatives include a worse physical release or none at all, and 2. Criterion's mainstream drops often rule. (Armageddon, anyone?)

critical point here. there are lots of anime titles we'd love to see in Criterion, but I don't think casual consumers have a great understanding of how pricey/difficult it is to secure those licenses. (if they did, they'd appreciate beloved outfits like GKIDS and Discotek and AnimEigo even *more*)
Exactly this. Also, keep in mind that Criterion doesn’t have access to every animated film. As it is with all movies, a major obstacle to going to Criterion is licensing.
